Bruno Kalic, Lucius Kalic, Matheus Cutini and Renan Simões have been musical partners since 2006, when they were first united in a progressive metal band in Vitória (ES/Brazil). Renan Simões and Sabrina Souza have been playing either classical music or pop music gigs since 2011. Sometimes they play both classic and pop music in the same gig.
On May 2014, Renan (bass, acoustic guitar and vocals), Sabrina (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Bruno (drums) made the basic arrangements of the songs that would become their first EP as nankimm. The drums were recorded in the second half of 2014.
There were some speed bumps until the guitars (Lucius) and keyboards (Matheus) were arranged and recorded, between January and February 2015. Voices were recorded on February 2016. March would see Renan and Sabrina move to Porto Alegre, in south of Brazil.
Roger Rocha, responsible for recording, mixing and mastering the EP, enhanced the band’s musical ideas and by including sampled sounds and effects. The band haven’t played live yet. A picture together wasn’t taken either.
The EP consists of two compositions by Renan Simões (Estrelas and Cereja), a composition by Horácio Simões and Jonas Reis (Outono) and two covers (by The Dissociatives and Alanis Morissette).
Some of the things nankimm love the most are Beck, Bon Iver, Death Grips, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Frank Ocean, Gimu, King Crimson, Milton Nascimento, My Bloody Valentine, Neon Indian, Nobuo Uematsu, Pat Metheny, Radiohead, Sepultura, Silva, Silverchair, Steve Vai, Tame Impala, the Beatles, Yes, and dozens of other artists, as well as the music of several composers of western concert music.
